a short prompt with long legs
Hi! Just a note to say, "Autobiographia Literaria" is by Frank O'Hara the poet rather than John O'Hara the short story writer.
My childhood was spent in a barracks.
My father supplied the soldiers with drink, tobacco and cards.
I earned a few sous brushing the soldiers' uniforms, untangling the braid, polishing
their buttons.
I promised myself this: I would have clothing even more glorious, clothing that would not
only command respect, but astonishment and awe.
Now I eat breakfast as a gentleman, play the tyrant to my troupe, and, for my gullible audience, assume the panoply of a god.
(not my autobiography, but that of one of my characters!)
Thank you so much for the correction, and sorry for the error.
